Sample Schedule
Sunday (Day 1)
Day 1 can be used to orient yourself and gather some basic skills.
8:30 AM | Grab a coffee and walk around to see who is there. See what the others are up to, maybe they already have some cool project ideas!
Think about topics for an unconference session: anything that interests you might also interest others and could be a great topic to discuss! Think about the scheduled hackathons that interest you, and maybe choose a workshop that prepares you for it. For instance, if you want to join the hackathon to persuade journals to adopt transparency policies, you could consider following the workshop about curating data, so you know the direction in which the journal policies should go. |
9:30 AM | Follow a workshop in R or about meta-analysis to brush up your skills for the rest of the conference |
12:30 PM | Lunch! |
1:30 PM | Follow another workshop. Maybe learn how to use the OSF, or learn something about being a good reviewer |
2:30 PM | Check out a hack-a-thon. It’s fine to walk in halfway: you’re not committed at all to choose one and keep working on it for the entire conference. Find out what interests you and what you’d like to contribute! |
6:30 PM | Official opening session |
7:30 PM | Join the unconference formation: here anyone can suggest interesting topics to discuss or to work on. The topics will be filled out in a schedule, so we create a conference agenda on the spot!
Some examples of possible topics/themes are:
The full list of previously identified topics can be found in the draft agenda, but new topics/themes are also fine!

Monday (Day 2)
This day is great to dive deeper into topics that came up yesterday.
8:30 AM | Grab a coffee and see what the rest did yesterday.
Check out the unconference sessions schedule to see where you want to go. |
9:30 AM | Listen to (or present!) the hackathon pitches: are there any topics you want to be a part of? |
10:30 PM | Check out the unconference sessions or follow a workshop |
11:30 PM | Listen to the first round of lightning talks: what came out of the hackathons yesterday and this morning? |
12:30 PM – 6:30 PM | Join a hackathon for the rest of the day. Pop in and out occasionally to go to the lightning talks or to join an unconference session.
Who knows: maybe a new hackathon idea arose from an unconference session that grabbed your attention! |
Tuesday (Day 3)
The perfect day to work on a project you chose the days before and come up with future steps.
8:30 AM | Grab a coffee and jump straight into your favorite hackathon! |
10:30 PM | Listen to the first round of lightning talks: what’s the current status of the several hackathons? Did something interesting arise from the unconference sessions? |
12:30 PM | Join a hackathon for the rest of the day. Pop in and out occasionally to go to the lightning talks or to join an unconference session.
With your hackathon team, decide on any next steps. |
5:30 PM | Close: what are the next steps for all the hackathons? |
